STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics' including biology and medicine too!
A broad-based group, exploring topics from our experience and knowledge. The group will evolve as it potentially covers such a broad range of topics. We might hear from a member answering common questions, or about their professional experience, or we might agree to read about and then discuss a chosen subject. No detailed technical material will be used; meetings should be accessible to all with an intelligent interest.
Topic for the meeting on 14th September: Newcastle's High-Level bridge (1849) that brought the railway directly into Newcastle instead of having to go up river or down to lower level and up again first. Andrew Freckingham will explain how it was designed (Stephenson and Harrison) and constructed.
Currently there is no subscription, but there may be a fee in future to contribute to projector hire and/or room hire.
